Liposuction is not a treatment for weight loss, but it can reduce the amount of unwanted fat on your body, positively affecting how much you weigh. But bad news for liposuction patients who don’t follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen after their surgery: researchers have found that the amount of fat removed can return, and probably not in the same area.

The randomized trial conducted by researchers at the University of Colorado found that fat removed in the lower part of the body, be it the buttocks, thighs or elsewhere on the legs, returned to the upper part of the body, namely the arms, chest and back. 32 women participated in the study, all in their 30s. They were of average weight and less than half had a modest amount of fat removed.

But what’s important to note, however, is that the study did not indicate whether the participants actually followed a healthy exercise and diet regimen following their liposuction surgeries. The results just show that measurements of their bodies were taken at the six week, six month and year marks, with an increase in the amount of fat on their stomachs specifically. We’re sure that if they had continued to carefully watch what they ate and remained physically active to create a deficit in their calorie consumption, the results would have been more favourable. In addition, the news accounts of the study reported that all the women were still pleased with the results of their liposuction despite the shift in fat stores.

While liposuction remains extremely popular to slim down specific areas, usually those that don’t respond well to a healthy lifestyle like your thighs or butt, the surgery should always be complemented with continuing exercise and diet. Just because you got liposuction, it doesn’t mean you now have a free ticket to sloth and over eating.

The fattest man in Romania, weighing in at 868 pounds, recently passed away – and his family may be getting liposuction for him so he can fit into his coffin.

The family of Cristian Capatanescu can’t afford a coffin that’s large enough for him and as a result, will have to opt for one that’s regular sized. Liposuction will allow Capatanescu to fit into one. According to news reports, the portion of his body that is removed during the liposuction procedure will be cremated while the remainder will be buried in a traditional funeral service.

While plus sized coffins are still rare in Canada, they are growing in popularity to accommodate the increase in size of the general population. More materials are needed to manufacture a larger coffin, as well as a larger plot at the cemetery. For this reason, plus sized coffins are more expensive, costing roughly double of one that’s regular sized.

A little bulging around the jawline? Chubby cheeks? These days, technology has allowed plastic and cosmetic surgeons to treat pockets of fat in sensitive areas, such as the face, safely and effectively – something that was difficult to do in the past due to the size of the cannula.

In the past, cannulas that were used had a diameter that measured a few centimeters. Because of its size, there were concerns of inserting it into sensitive areas as well as the larger incision required to accommodate its insertion (which would result in a more visible scar). However, laser assisted liposuction technology, such as Smartlipo, utilizes a smaller cannula (aka microcannula) that measures a mere couple of millimeters. This allows the physician conducting the procedure to create an incision in the facial area far smaller than was once required. Some areas that were once off limits to liposuction are now able to be targeted as a result.

Facial Harmony

But if you’d like to undergo facial liposuction, keep in mind that minimizing pockets of subcutaneous fat can profoundly alter facial contours and highlight other features. For example, someone who undergoes liposuction for their chubby cheeks and pockets of fat resting in the area of the jawline may find that after surgery, their nose and eyes become more prominent. While more noticeable eyes may not be such a problem, a more prominent nose may be, causing the individual to consider rhinoplasty as a corrective measure to reclaim aesthetic harmony.

Therefore you should always consider how facial liposuction will impact your other features. You may not like the results!

Katie Price, the glamour model also known as Jordan, is considering undergoing another liposuction to tone up her legs. The first time the reality tv junkie had liposuction done was on her thighs a few years ago, back when she was known in the UK but still relatively unknown in North America. She also plans to get yet another breast augmentation or possible breast lift.

This time, however, she’ll be accompanied by her husband, Alex Reid. Alex Reid, an MMA fighter and Celebrity Big Brother winner, will be getting a host of procedures done according to news reports. Top on the list are cosmetic revision rhinoplasty, to fix up his nose that’s been broken several times before, and cosmetic otoplasty, to improve the appearance of his damaged ears and pin them back. Apparently, Alex is planning to undergo the cosmetic surgical procedures to appease Katie.

As a fan of Botox injections, injectable fillers, cosmetic dentistry, and laser skin treatments, will Katie introduce Alex to the world of cosmetic surgery?

(By the time you’ve read this, they may have already done it. If that’s the case, we’ll soon find out since their lives are pretty much transparent to everyone with internet access.)

In Mauritania, a country in northwest Africa, traditional views of obese women are remarkably favourable. According to customs, obese women are considered more beautiful than women of normal weight. Women tipping the scales are perceived as wealthier, more attractive and more fertile. Husbands of obese women are also perceived as being caring.

At a young age, girls are encouraged, and sometimes “force fed” to consume larger quantities of food to gain weight. Some are even sent to camps where they are put on a diet of fattening foods with plenty of rest between meals, so that weight gain is facilitated and expedited. The trend is most prominent amongst Moor Arabs, however the tradition is slowly decreasing in popularity.

This type of weight gain is, needless to say, unhealthy. It can cause the accumulation of abnormal quantities of fat, located both viscerally and subcutaneously. Visceral fat cannot be treated with liposuction, nor can women who are morbidly obese since the risks related to any type of surgery increase exponentially.

Why do you still have to exercise and maintain a healthy diet after you get liposuction? Doesn’t the procedure get rid of your fat so you don’t have to worry about that anymore?

If you visit any reputable source online, speak to medical professionals knowledgeable about liposuction, and talk to people who have actually undergone the procedure, you’ll know that the ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who is relatively healthy, physically and mentally. On top of that, you’ll also know that before and after surgery, patients must follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a suitable exercise regimen and well-balanced diet.

Liposuction isn’t for people looking for a solution to being overweight. Here’s one of the reasons why.

Current forms of liposuction, such as laser assisted, ultrasonic and tumescent, can only target fat that’s located under the skin. This type of fat, known as subcutaneous fat, can be removed. However, fat surrounding the internal organs located under the abdominal muscles, known as visceral, cannot be targeted.

Fat that’s located viscerally is considered to be more dangerous than what exists under the skin because it’s harder to shed and is transformed by the body into bad cholesterol, causing serious health issues such as heart disease and diabetes.

As a result, following a healthy lifestyle before and after liposuction is vital to prevent excess accumulation of visceral fat.

Want a stomach that’s flatter and boasts more defined ab muscles? If you’ve got up to 2 centimetres of pinchable fat in the area, Abdominal Etching may be what you’re looking for.

Abdominal Etching is a cosmetic procedure that was designed by Dr. Henry A. Mentz III back in the 90s. It is essentially a form of liposuction that contours and shapes the abdominal fat pad with a special cannula, creating a flatter stomach. Removing desired amounts of fat along the ab muscles allows them to become more visible.

Since every patient has a different muscular pattern in the area, markings are made before surgery so that the physician may achieve the best results.

Liposuction isn’t just about sucking out fat. It can even help you with hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is the clinical term for excessive sweating, most commonly in the areas of the hands, armpits, and feet (though it can be found just about anywhere on the body that has sweat glands). It affects millions of people worldwide. For years now, Botox has been the most widely used treatment. However, could liposuction be a viable alternative?

German physicians have used liposuction technology to suck out sweat glands in offending areas to reduce the amount of sweat produced. According to reports, up to 75% reduction in sweat was reported by the majority of participants in the trial after a 20 minute procedure for one armpit.

In the instance of Needle Liposuction, fat removal is performed with a needle inserted into the desired area to suction the fat out into the syringe. Needle Liposuction is best performed on areas that require only a small adjustment to their contour, such as the chin, jowls and cheeks. It is not suitable for larger areas such as the thighs or abdomen. The needle is the only thing that enters the body, therefore no incision is required, and consequently, no scars. Generally performed under local anesthetic, it is a relatively fast and simple body contouring procedure.

Thinking about getting some liposuction done and want to know how much of that blubber you can get rid of?

Well, the amount of unwanted fat an individual can have removed during a single liposuction procedure really depends on a variety of factors.

The resulting contour desired
The physician scheduled to perform your procedure will determine how much fat can be removed to achieve the contour you want. With their experience and expertise, they’ll know if half a litre of fat will eliminate that saddle bag, or 2 litres for that pot belly. They’ll also take into consideration the tautness of the skin in the area so your new contour won’t be adversely affected by unwanted wrinkles or cellulite.

How much can be safely removed
While about 4-5 litres of fat is generally considered the maximum amount that can be safely removed from a patient on an outpatient basis, this figure may vary depending on the individual’s physical health. 4 litres may be too much for some. As a result, the tests taken prior to the procedure help your physician determine the maximum that can be safely removed.
