The fattest man in Romania, weighing in at 868 pounds, recently passed away – and his family may be getting liposuction for him so he can fit into his coffin.

The family of Cristian Capatanescu can’t afford a coffin that’s large enough for him and as a result, will have to opt for one that’s regular sized. Liposuction will allow Capatanescu to fit into one. According to news reports, the portion of his body that is removed during the liposuction procedure will be cremated while the remainder will be buried in a traditional funeral service.

While plus sized coffins are still rare in Canada, they are growing in popularity to accommodate the increase in size of the general population. More materials are needed to manufacture a larger coffin, as well as a larger plot at the cemetery. For this reason, plus sized coffins are more expensive, costing roughly double of one that’s regular sized.
