Approved by the FDA in November 2006 and sometime later by Health Canada, Smartlipo is the newest technique in the field of liposuction today.
Smartlipo is a kind of laser assisted liposuction. Using the device, a 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser is delivered through a tiny cannula into the target areas of the body to rupture fat and coagulate tissue and blood vessels. While the fat can be removed by liposuction or by the natural human process of lipolysis (usually for smaller amounts of fat), Smartlipo is unique as the device used tightens the skin so that no additional surgery to remove flaccid, excess skin is required. Plus, there’s less bruising, swelling, and bleeding than traditional forms of liposuction.
Smartlipo is being hailed as the least invasive method of liposuction available. It’s now available in Canada.
